What to Look For

The entire Vusion process is designed to retain the high quality of the source, yet optimize bandwidth for distribution and reach. Although we believe that the difference glaring, below is a list of things to look out for during your comparison:

  • Start and Seek: Watch how quickly the player loads and starts playing video. Drag the progress bar to instantly seek. In comparison, with progressive download you cannot seek ahead of the progress bar and other streaming solutions require substantial buffer time.
  • Full-Screen: The best way to compare high quality video is in Full-Screen mode. The Vusion FullVu Player provides a great full screen experience, whereas other solutions either don’t provide true full screen or stretch the video to fit. This is the best way to stress both your network and computer resources. Look for blocking and jitter in the video.
  • Color: The Vusion FullVu Player will display colors that are as rich and vivid as the colors found in the source file. In comparison, other solutions will look soft and washed out.
  • Motion: Look closely at things that move quickly. With Vusion the motion is quick and clear of artifacts.
  • Auto Bandwidth Adjustment: The Vusion FullVu Player constantly requests and adjusts the appropriate video resolution based on available bandwidth and computer resources. In comparison, progressive download video will deliver a single bit-rate which typically equates to poor quality for all or better quality that limits most viewers having a good experience.

What is PSNR?

Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) is the ratio between the signal power of source video and corrupting noise that is introduced by compression, measured in decibels (dB). When comparing compression codecs it is used as an approximation to human perception. The more lossy the compression, the greater the PSNR drop and the greater the loss in fidelity.
